Blakemere's Weekly Blog: 09.05.2025

Date: 11th May 2025 @ 9:45am

Another week in Blakemere has come to an end and once again I have been impressed the commitment the children have shown to all areas of their learning. This week’s blog will be a little shorter than previous ones.

English

This week, the children have worked on completing their retelling of the Selfish Giant with the aim of incorporating all of the mastery keys that they have been exploring during this unit. Each day, the children worked on a different section of their story, and I am very much looking forward to reading them.

Maths

This week, we have continued to explore ratio in Maths. We have continued to solve problems involving ratio and scaling up and down recipes using our knowledge of multiplication and division. Another example of how multiplication is used in within lots of areas of maths and how I confident recall of times table facts supports this learning. Our Year 6 children have continued to engage in some different revision lessons in Maths.

Science

The children continued to explore the work of Sir Isaac Newton in Science and produced a fact file about his life and work.

Year 6 Swimming

Year 6 children will continue with swimming this week and every Monday afternoon onwards. Please ensure that they have their swimming kit, towel and googles with them every Monday.

Year 6 SATS
Next week, marks the start of Year 6 SATs tests. I have been incredibly impressed with how hard the children have worked over the course of this year in preparation however, as my letter said, this is just one small part of your Year 6 journey and you do not need to worry -that is my job! I will be there the whole time with you all. Just come and be you and do your best!!

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
I think we have done this question before, however, What is Mrs M’s favourite animal?

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children has their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

To our Year 6 children, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning from 8:10am to share breakfast together.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
