Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 11.07.2025

Date: 12th Jul 2025 @ 2:22pm

I can’t quite believe that we are heading into our penultimate week as Blakemere class of 2024-2025. The year has flown, and I have been incredibly impressed with what the children have achieved.

Maths

This week, we have completed our topic on area. We continued to use the formula of l x w to help us to find the area of much more complex shapes and triangles. I was extremely impressed with the children’s drive towards this area of work.

Art

This week the children have planned, designed and made their very own shadow puppets. We firstly researched the historical tradition of walang kulit and how the shadow puppets were made. The children then chose their own theme to create their shadow puppets. They just needed to ensure it included some elements – articulation using split pins, subtraction with parts of the design cut out and addition where the children add bits to it. The shadow puppets were amazing and ranged from an angel, to flower, to iron man, to a robot, to sports people, to a helmet. The children’s creativity was just fab.

English

The children revisited relative clauses and how to create these and then we created some complex sentences about Jacques Cousteau.

Year 6 Leaver’s Play – 17.07.2025

We hope you are all as excited as we are to share our leaver’s performance of Blakemere: This is your life with you on Thursday 17th July. Be prepared to laugh and cry along with our wonderful Year 6 children.

Well done

A huge well done this week to Eva E for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Frankie and Phoebe for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Another well done to Mia, Tate and Harry for being selected as Blakemere’s Workers of the Week by their peers.

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children has their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

Enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
