Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 13.06.2025

Date: 14th Jun 2025 @ 8:06pm

We have got to the end of another busy week here in Blakemere and I can’t quite believe how fast the weeks are going.

DT

This week, we have spent some time on our food unit in DT. We have explored what risks and hazards may be present in a kitchen and how these can be managed and avoided. We then explored the journey of bread and how it was made. The children then practised making different shapes for their bread out of Playdoh. The children then planned their own design for their bread including ingredients they would like to add. We shall make our bread after we get back from London.

Maths

This week, we have explored perimeter in Maths. The children have focused on measuring the sides of different shapes accurately to help them work out the perimeter. We then explored three different methods for finding the perimeter of the shapes and the children were encouraged to choose the method they felt most confident with. We then explored finding missing sides when given the perimeter.

Sport’s Day

Mrs Riley informed me that Sport’s Day in the afternoon on Friday was a huge success and Blakemere conducted themselves brilliantly. In the morning, the children took part in a variety of activities which they enjoyed. Some of our children also helped to support Key Stage 1 Sport’s Day by giving out stickers and setting up for the races. Well done to all involved.

Year 6 Play

The rehearsals are coming along well for the Year 6 Play and I am incredibly impressed with how the children are working on learning their lines, the songs and the actions for the performance.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What is 8 x 7?

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children have their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
