Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 21.01.2022

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 10:04am

What a great we have had in Blakemere with lots of achievements and things to be proud of.

In English, we continued to explore our book -Can we save the tiger? A book all about critically endangered species. At the beginning of the week the children accpeted the challenge to come up with a variety of effective vocabulary linked to tigers. We had to think about the tiger's appeareance, how it moves, where it lives. I was incredibly impressed with the vocabulary and synonyms for tigers that the children came up with. We then used this vocabulary to create a list poem about tigers, whoich were amazing.

Maths has centred around dividing fractions by whole amounts, ordering fractions with different denominators and adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. It has been a pleasure watching the childrens' confidence grow with this this and now able to apply these methods to word problems.

We are continuing to explore the geography of the UK and have looked at OS maps and their symbols. The children explored an OS MAp of London and labelled different symbols and features before drawing their own OS Map of a small area of Winsford from using an aerial photograph of the same area.

Creation is our next topic in RE. The creation story is another big story from the Bible and focuses on how God created the world in his image and wants us to take care of the world and act as stewards. We explored the Mucknell Monks and how they aim to protect and share the world's resources just as God wants us to.

Last week, I mentioned that we had been putting together a display of the children's Tell Me poems about endangered species. The display looks amazing and I wanted to share it with you all.
