Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 24.01.2025

Date: 26th Jan 2025 @ 10:31am

Another successful week with lots of learning achieved. Well done Blakemere!

English
This week, we learnt about Jackie Robinson and how he was an excellent baseball player and also a pioneer in ending segregation in mainstream sport in American in the 1940-1950s. We used his experiences as a driver for our work this week. We firstly inferred his feelings, thoughts, actions and what he may have said when he first walked out on to the field for his first Major League Baseball game. We then explore parenthesis and how this is extra information we can add into our main clauses. Finally, we used all of this to produce a paragraph about Jackie Robinson and his life.

Maths
We have explored multiplying fractions and multiplying fractions and mixed number fractions by whole amounts.

Science
This week we explored Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution further and explored how finches on the Galapagos Island beaks adapted to suit their environment and the food that was available. The children used different sized tweezers to represent different sized beaks and then used different seeds. They had to see which beak was most effective and picking up what type of seed.

RE
This week, we continued to explore our different descriptions of God. We explored how God can be described as omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. Why not ask you child to see if they can remember what these words meant? WE then drew our reflections for these words.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Lexi-May for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Ava K, Annie, Mia and Frankie M for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Finally, a huge well done to Kai and Eva C for being selected as Worker of the Week in Blakemere by their peers.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What does God is omniscient mean?

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
