Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 27.06.2025
Date: 29th Jun 2025 @ 10:10am
Another busy week here in Blakemere and I can’t quite believe we only have 3 weeks of this academic year remaining.
English
In English, we have begun to explore the text ‘Manfish: A Story of Jacques Cousteau by Jennifer Berne. We are going to be learning about the life and work of this explorer and how he was pioneer for sea exploration. This week, we have explored a variety of words from the text and identified synonyms for them and then we went on to explore an image of under water. The children were given the task to come up with words and phrases that best described the sea. They will then use these descriptions to produce a setting description.
Maths
This week, we have been exploring the perimeter of different shapes. We then moved on to exploring how to find the length of different sides of the shapes when they were missing and how to use the sides that we had been given to help with this. Finally, we explored finding the perimeter of more complex rectilinear shapes and solve problems involving them.
Science
This week, we have started our new topic in science all about the circulatory system. We began by exploring the heart, its job and its parts. We will continue to explore the heart of the next couple of weeks.
Year 6 Swimming
Monday, saw our Year 6 children take part in life saving and rescue sessions at swimming. It was great to see them all get involved.
Well done
A huge well done this week to Kai for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Joshua, Arabella and Haley for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name a part of the heart.
What can you do at home?
• Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
• PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
• Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children has their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
• Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
• Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
• Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
YEAR 6 – Keep learning your lines and songs for play.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
