Hello everyone,
It has certainly started to feel a little more festive in school this week with appearance of Christmas trees in classrooms and whispers about the construction of Christmas wreaths. We have had a sneaky peek at the wreaths and they look amazing - we can't wait to share our class wreath with you at the end of the week. Each child has made a contribution by decorating a bauble with words of compassion. The children of Delamere have also completed a festive themed task in French with Mrs Winder by looking at how Christmas is celebrated in France and learning new vocabulary. The work completed can be seen under day 3 of the Over St John's Advent Calendar. Across the school we have also been engaging with a Kindness Advent calendar - so far we have been opening doors to help others and giving hugs to our loved ones.
In maths this week we have been adding and subtracting one more/less to larger numbers and looking for patterns in numbers. The children loved playing the interactive games Funky Mummy and Helicopter Squad to reinforce these skills.
In history we found out about George Stephenson and the steam locomotive. After watching some steam train footage there were lots of children planning their post lockdown train journeys! We also looked to the future at concept cars and designed our own futuristic cars. They ranged from the ability to fly drive, illuminated interiors to luxury seating and sliding doors. I definitely want to drive one of these cars!
As the weather turns colder we would like to suggest that your child wears dark coloured leggings or tracksuit bottoms for PE sessions. All PE lessons will take place outdoors so we need to be prepared for all weathers. A vest would also be beneficial. Lately lots of children have been saying their footwear is a little tight – if you are replacing their footwear for PE then can we suggest a pair trainers as they have better grip then pumps on the school playground.
Our school councillors did a wonderful job of leading our whole class school council meeting and shared a mission set by the school office. Keep an eye on the School Council tab on the website to keep up to date with the latest news and outcomes of school council meetings.
We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.
Stay safe.
