Good morning everyone,

How lovely to be back in school and blogging about your children's week of learning so far.  It feels like it has been such a long time since we've been in a postition to do this.

We would like you ask you a favour - please could you spread the message amongst our Over St John's CE Primary School community to check in regularly with our school website?  Especially the class blogs as this is where we will sharing with you important information such as when PE kits are needed, reading at home guidance, any updates to classroom routines and timetables.  Thank you.

QUICK REMINDERS

  • Reading books and diaries are checked and changed on a Tuesday
  • PE kits are needed every Wednesday and Friday
  • Water bottles can be sent in daily

Every child has now been given their book banded reading book (the one to use for practising reading skills), a library book for sharing and enjoying with their families (please make a note in their diaries when this has been shared too) and also their reading diary.  Please use this diary to record ANY reading your child has completed at home.  We have included a reading activity sheet in the front of your child's diary with some ideas too.  We particulay rllove the idea of audiobooks.  In school, we will be listening to your child read too but from a school based book banded book and we shall be keeping our records of your child's reading progress in our reading file.  At school reading may take place as individual reading or guided reading.

We have started to enjoy a book called Look Up! in our English lessons this week. It's a fabulous story that makes links with theachievements of astronaut Mae Jemison.  As part of our work this week we have been finding out more about Mae Jemison using You Tube links and information texts.  Perhaps your child might like to do some further research at home too?  https://kids.kiddle.co/Mae_Jemison

In maths this week we have been looking at matching numerals and numbers written in words.  We are very pleased with the children and had some wonderful wow moments as we've worked with numbers up to 100.  We played Fruit Splat to speed up our skills and had lots of fun - here is the link so your child can practise at home too  https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math/early-math/number-words-fruit-splat-game/

Our collective worships this week hae been about hope, faith and compassion.  We have had some wonderful discusions about when we use these christian values in our daily lives.  The children's understand of compassion is developing beautifully.  In the words of the Bible 'The lord is gracious and compassionate, slow in anger and rich in love' Psalm 14 6:8

This week we started to look at the United Kingdom and it's four countries - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  We had lots of fun outside on the playground using our interactive map to try and locate these countries. We will be continuing our work on the UK next week - we wonder how many children can remember the four countries.  This link is great for enhancing learning at home https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z42pnrd

We are so proud of each and every one of the children in Delamere class for settling in so beautfully, getting to grips with the new routines and trying their very best with their work in class.  They should be so proud of themselves too.  It's all so very different, yet they are all quickly adapting in such a postive and compassionate manner.  Well done Team Delamere.

See you all soon.
