Delamere Superstars - 24th & 25th September 2020
Date: 24th Sep 2020 @ 9:15pm
Well that was a busy couple of days but you have all really wowed us by keeping up brilliantly, so well done!
Firstly, well done for being so grown up and sensible when it came to your flu vaccinations. The nurses were very impressed!
In Maths, we have continued partitioning numbers into tens and ones and we practised writing addition sentences to match. The children are really building up confidence with this skill and as we completed the calculations, we explored the position of the equals sign. See below for some examples. We also worked on our Maths skills in the playground, partitioning numbers into tens and ones using actions; star jumps for a ten and and a foot stamp for a one. Eg. 35 would be 3 star jumps and 5 stamps, as we counted, 10, 20, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35. It was lots of fun and is an activity that you can easily do at home, keeping fit and doing Maths!
The children have worked hard on their writing this week and it was great to see them applying some of our English skills in their Science work, joining their ideas with the word 'and'. We began our unit of work on Living Things and Their Habitats by exploring the concept cartoon below and the children engaged in some fantastic discussion, thinking about how they could clearly explain their thinking. "I think that the balloon is not alive because it doesn't eat or drink." "I think that the balloon could be alive because it does move around." "I think that even though the balloon moves it does not move on it's own, only in the wind, so it is not alive." Well done Delamere for thinking scientifically!
If you haven't already done so, please head over to Mrs Snowdon's most recent blog as it has some important new information.
Have a fabulous weekend and we look forward to seeing what next week brings.
