Delamere's Weekly blog - 24.11.2023

Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 4:24pm

Another productive week in Delamere.

In English we have had lots of fun exploring the poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’, finding out about the interesting vocabulary, some real and some nonsense and we are fantastic at saying the poem out loud from memory! Towards the end of the week we even began to create our own versions of the Nonsense Poem with lots of funny words like disping, splued and tayed. Great effort Delamere.

There has also been some great handwriting practise this week, as we practised our letter ’i’, ‘e’, ‘g’ and ‘d’ and some new joins, with three children receiving golden stickers from Mrs Snowdon. Keep it up everyone!

In Maths we have been recapping number bonds to 10 and 20 and finding fact families for sets of numbers. We also used our number bonds to ten to help us find related facts to 100, e.g. if we know that 3+7=10 we also know that 30+70=100.

In Geography we began our new unit by thinking about our place in the world, starting with our home and working outwards to our town, county and country. Some super progress was made during the session. I wonder if you can find your home on Google maps and zoom in and out to see where we are in the world.

In RE we began our Incarnation unit and thought about how we would welcome a King to Winsford. There were some great ideas, such as wave flags, make welcome banners and play trumpet music and we used our ideas to make wordart in the shape of a crown. Next week we will sequence the Christmas story and focus particularly on the visit of the Magi (the wise men).

In DT we continued our work on puppets and began to explore how they are made. We practised a simple running stitch and using a pattern to make equally sized shapes. We can’t wait to design and create our own owl puppets.

Our big WELL DONE for Numbots this week goes to Archie, Daisy and Tyler.

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
