Delamere's Weekly Blog - 6.1.2022

Date: 6th Jan 2023 @ 8:22am

Happy New Year from Team Delamere! And what a fantastic start to 2023 we have had! The children have come back with renewed energy and enthusiasm and we can’t wait to see where the Spring Term will take us.

In English we have finished reading our story ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’ and it was brilliant to see the children’s excitement as they discovered that Plop was no longer afraid of the dark and had become a night bird! They actually cheered with delight! We spent some time looking back through the story and thinking about how Plop was feeling at different stages. We came up with some great feeling words and a special shout out has to go to Lily-Amelia who thought of some fantastic words, courageous, confident and proud! We are very proud of your contributions Lily-Amelia!

Maths has seen us continue to use our number bonds to ten to help us add to the next ten. If we know that 2 + 8 = 10 we also know that 12 + 8 = 20 and 22 + 8 = 30. Can you think of the next calculation in the pattern? Next week we will begin to add across tens. Keep practising those number bonds to 10 and within ten as these basic skills make our more difficult Maths work easier. Don’t forget that Numbots is a great way to practise these skills and regular practise is part of our Homework Policy. It would be great to see some new names at the top of the leader board. We check regularly who has been accessing the programme and will be checking in with anyone who has not accessed the programme to see if there is any way that we can support you with this.  http://www.overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk/serve_file/2883463

Our Science this half term is all about different materials and their properties. This afternoon we went on a materials hunt around our classroom, thinking about what different objects were made from and why these materials were suitable.

A quick reminder of the importance of regular reading with your child. We ask that each child reads at least 4 times a week and that these reads are recorded in their reading record. We have noticed a dip recently with some children but hope that as the new year begins we can make reading our focus once again. As with Numbots, weekly reading is part of our Homework Policy and must be carried out each week.

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Lily-Amelia, Adelaide and Danielle for being top of the Numbots leaderboard this week and our excellent examples go to Tyler, Lily-Amelia and Lucas.

We hope that you have a great weekend and look forward to lots more fun and learning next week.
