Delamere's Weekly Blog - 7.2.25
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 4:20pm
What a week Delamere, you have all worked so hard! The brighter weather must be giving you a boost and I have noticed some snow drops popping up in my garden so Spring must be just around the corner.
In English this week we have been very excited about beginning our new unit on ‘Major Glad and Major Dizzy’. We spent some time looking at the key vocabulary and there are some very interesting words in this story. Then we explored some present tense verbs ending in the -ing suffix. We wrote some brilliant sentences describing what we could see in one of the pictures and used amazing words such as approaching, creeping and standing. We even added some adverbs too and my favourite has to be stealthily! Great work Delamere, I think it is going to be a great unit.
In Maths we practised solving subtraction calculations using column method and had a recap of partitioning 2-digit numbers in different ways, so 37 can be 30 + 7, 20 + 17, 19 + 27, 10 + 17 or 0 + 37. We explored the patterns and looked closely at what was happening to the two different parts.
As this week has been Mental health week we did some work during our PSHCE session and thought about how different emotions relate to different feelings such when we are happy, our strengths and our hopes and dreams. We all took a leaf home to decorate with our hopes and dreams and these will be displayed near the reflection area. In other areas of the curriculum we looked at how the artist inspired us to draw different animals from Africa and used cross hatching, stippling and hatching to shade and add texture to the animals in Art, listened to and retold the story of ‘The Calming of the Storm’ in RE, practised our running stitch in DT and continued our computing unit on photography.
Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Archie, Olivia, Reuben and Izzy for topping the Numbots leader board and we would like to say another BIG WELL done to all of the children who continue to read 4 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading frequently at home with your child. Our OSJ expectation for reading at home is at least 4 times a week and this is to ensure that your child is making the progress that they need to become confident readers, which will in turn give them the skills to succeed in all areas of the curriculum. Thank you for your support with this.
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
