Delamere's Weekly Blog - 9.9.2022

Date: 9th Sep 2022 @ 7:00pm

Well, that’s the first week in Year 2 done and what a brilliant week it has been! The children have really impressed us with their enthusiasm, imagination and absolutely beautiful manners and it has been a real pleasure getting to know each other.

Year 2 is such an exciting year where the children get to really let their lights shine brightly, become super independent and, of course, have lots of fun.

Our English sessions this week have been based around ‘The Worrysaurus’ story written by the wonderful Rachel Bright and it has been a great platform for us to explore the feeling of worry, starting from the point of view of the dinosaur in the story who has butterflies in his tummy and moving onto ourselves and thinking about what we can do if we feel worried. The children have had some wonderful ideas and wrote them on their own butterflies to help them to let their worries flutter away.

In Maths, we have jumped straight into our Place Value learning and the children have demonstrated a super can-do attitude, especially when tackling some of the more challenging problems – well done everyone!

Next Week

Reading – Next week your child will be bringing their reading record and reading book home with them. Please read with your child at least 4 times a week, as this will support them in all areas of their learning and is so important to their overall development. Don’t forget to record this in their reading record as this will help them to move up the reading ladder and hopefully achieve some reading awards along the way.

P.E.- Monday afternoon, as detailed in the email sent out this week.

Swimming – Sessions are on a Wednesday afternoon, starting from next week (14.9.22). Your child will need to bring all of their swimming kit every Wednesday, which includes a towel and goggles if needed. To save time when getting changed your child can come to school part changed, i.e. boys wearing their trunks and girls wearing swimming costumes, rolled down so that they can still use the toilet for the rest of the day. If you choose to do this, please send underwear to change into afterwards. We also recommend that girls don’t wear tights on a Wednesday as it can be very tricky to put them on afterwards.

Numbots – In your child’s reading diary there will be a sticker with their Numbots log in details. As part of our homework policy children are to access Numbots on a regular basis to ensure that they are confident in their basic number skills that form a foundation for the rest of our Maths curriculum. The end of the day on a Friday is Fantastic Friday in Delamere and during this time we will give out certificates for Numbots along with lots of raffle tickets.

1st place – 30 raffle tickets

2nd Place – 20 raffle tickets

3rd Place – 10 raffle tickets

Finally, a big WELL DONE and thank you to everyone in Delamere this week. You have smashed it and we can’t wait to see what you all achieve this year.

Hope you have a great weekend and we will see you next week for more fun and learning.
