Diwali in Hatchmere

This week has been all about Diwali - The Festival of Light. The children have listened to the story of Rama & Sita which explained to them why Diwali is celebrated. Questions were asked throughout the story to ensure the children we taking an active part in their learning and had a good understanding of the sequence of events. This is also a  skill that is simple to support at home; when you have read your child a story/watched a TV programme, ask them questions about it. Can they sequence (beginning, middle, end) events? Can they remember important aspects (how, why, when, names, places) of the story?

 

Hatchmere have also gotten very messy with some clay! We used our hands to manipulate, some tools to decorate and created our very own Diwali lamps to light up the way for Rama & Sita and to celebrate Diwali.
