What a wonderful three days we had! It was an absolute pleasure spending my time with such a lovely class of children.
We spent our time learning about the rainforest including finding out about the layers of the rainforest and the different animals that live in each layer. We learned where the rainforests are located in the world and all about the weather condtions. The children produced some fabulous collages inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau and learned how to curl, fold and layer paper of different textures to create the rainforest layers. The finished pieces showed great rhythm and movement.
We watched a short film called The Catch and used our inference skills to work out who Toki was, where he was from and what was he trying to chiece. It is a beautiful story about a young boy called Toki who belongs to a tribe in the Amazon rainforest who was asked to bring back the largest animal to his tribe. A story of determination, adventure and friendship. We then retold the story by creating our own story maps and making stick puppets.
The highlight of our three days was the mini sports event on Tuesday afternoon. The children worked in teams and competed in races, javelin, scavenger hunts and we even got time to use the parachute and play a whole host of games. Well done to every child for their resilience, good sportmanship and great team spirit. They all received a certificate with the winning team taking home medals. A huge thank you to Miss Boydell for organsiing this!
Well done Team Doakmere!
