Finals - Year 5/6 Girls' Football

Date: 29th Oct 2017 @ 12:05pm

We were very honoured to be representing the Winsford Cluster in the Girls' Football Finals last Thursday. We knew it was going to be difficult but I don't think we were really ready for the standard of football being produced by some of the other schools.

We started off  very well with a win over Wincham Primary (2-1), after some brilliant play by the girls, with Maddie making some superb saves along the way. The next two games were, as I said earlier, a lesson in football. The other teams, Hartford Primary and Sandiway Primary had been well schooled in the skills of the game and the passing and shooting was awesome to watch! Our girls ran their hearts out and made some terrific attempts on goal. Not once did their heads fall and each and every one of them deserve to feel proud.

Our last match, against St. Wilfrid's Primary, was quite close for most of the match, but tired legs meant they scored three goals in the second half, which won the game.

Our girls had a fantastic day and improved during the course of the afternoon. They knew it was going to be tough but they all said they thoroughly enjoyed the competition.

Undoubted star of the day was Maddie, in goal, she stood her ground on countless occasions and not once did she give up. She grew more confident in each match and even, after taking a rocket ball to the chest,  carried on for the sake of the team. She could be heard shouting 'MINE' to her defenders and controlled the back line.

Well done girls, you were outstanding, Mrs Smith and I could not have more proud,

Team, Jorja, Isobel, Madison, Annie, Darcie, Alycia, Brooke and Grace
