Head Teacher Blog: Friday 16th November 2018

Date: 16th Nov 2018 @ 11:38am

What a busy week we have had in school! This week has been Parliament Week and children have spent time in class talking about democracy, British laws and how the parliamentary system works in our country. On chatting to the children, they have completed a wide variety of exciting activities in class and have really enjoyed finding out about the many different aspects of Parliament. Please take a look at class blogs over the next few days as teachers share more information about what they have been doing in each class.

National Anti-Bullying Week is this week and as it has also been Parliament Week, as a school we will be focussing on our own Anti-Bullying Week from Monday 26th to Friday 30th November. However, in preparation, our Junior Safety Officers have launched a competition to highlight our STOP and THINK campaigns that they put together in conjunction with the School Council. Separate letters have been sent home about this, but they involve KS1 children designing a poster to display around school for our STOP campaign (Several Times On Purpose and Start Telling Over St. John’s People) and KS2 a powerpoint to be shown in assembly during Anti-Bullying Week around our THINK campaign (Think before you speak, How would you feel? Is this the right thing to do? Nobody should be an outsider! Kindness is key.)

Children are also invited to wear odd socks on Friday 30th November to highlight how individual everyone is and to celebrate being unique. Also in preparation, we welcomed One Day Creative into school today to lead workshops with the children from Year 2 upwards around this year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme of Choose Respect – please chat to your children about what they did and what they learnt.

As part of this week’s Wake Up Wednesday, National Online Safety have produced a poster for us to share with pupils aimed at highlighting the negative impact that online bullying can have on children, what to do if a child has been bullied online and where they can go for help.

Thank you to everyone who brought in donations today for Children in Need. Once all monies have been counted, I will let you know how much has been raised.

A huge well done to our Year 5 and 6 footballers who went to Winsford Academy yesterday for a mixed football tournament. It was great to see our girls and boys playing so well together against some single sex boys teams, showing our No Outsiders attitude of equality to all that we do. The children played really well as a team and came up against some stiff competition, but they kept going and gave as good as they got! Well done teams!

Brooke in Blakemere went along to Chester Cathedral last Sunday to read out her winning entry from the remembrance competition. She was awarded a certificate and a beautiful statue of a soldier for her incredible efforts. I have seen some of the photos that were taken on the day and feel very proud that Brooke was able to represent our school at such a prestigious event – well done Brooke.
