Head Teacher Blog: Friday 26th October 2018

Date: 26th Oct 2018 @ 12:11pm

Thank you so much for all those who were able to share in our Harvest Festival at church this morning. The children did an incredible job of making sure that we give thanks to God for all that he provides and I’m sure that everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the children. Also, thank you for your donations to Mid Cheshire Foodbank. When we have delivered your donations, we will be able to tell you just how much was donated.

This really fits in with the theme that we have been thinking about this week in Collective Worship – sharing. We thought about what we would be able to share with others such as time, ideas, playground games and equipment and we set ourselves a challenge to see how many times we could share with others this week. I know that many people have been telling me, as they have seen me around school, what they have been up to – perhaps ask your child what they have been able to share with others this week. “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

We also thought about equality this week with regards to gender and skin colour. We looked at a photograph of the new Doctor Who and discussed how it doesn’t matter what your gender is, you can still achieve what you want to, and likewise we talked about apartheid in South Africa that came to an end in the early 1990s and how it doesn’t matter what the colour of your skin is, you can still achieve and do what you want to. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  Galatians 3:28

Thank you to everyone that has been able to attend one of the six meetings that were carried out to introduce parents to our No Outsiders ethos. Everyone that has attended has been overwhelmingly positive about what we are doing in school, some even recognising that we have always done our best to ensure that everyone is made to feel welcome here and it is the right thing to be doing with our children in modern Britain - your support is much appreciated. We will continue to hold our weekly assembly with the children and raise issues of diversity for them to think about and ensure that the children understand that there are no outsiders at Over St. Johns, everyone is welcome.

We have had some sporting successes this week. Firstly to our children who attended the Run for Fun (those words don’t work very well together for me!) at Moss Farm on Tuesday. The children came back having had a fantastic time and even though they were worn out, managed to keep huge smiles on their faces! Also, to the girls football team who went to the girls football final at Winsford Academy yesterday. They gave a valiant fight and came up against some very slick teams and managed to end up in fifth position. Well done girls!

As part of this week’s #WakeUpWednesday campaign, National Online Safety have created a free guide for parents & carers to help them stay vigilant when their children are using the App Store. The App Store is used by most Apple device owners and, with millions of apps to choose from and download onto their devices, it’s important that parents know how to help their children use the App Store safely. This free guide covers what you need to know regarding the associated risks of the store including look-alike apps, in-app purchases, inappropriate material and more .The App Store guide for parents & carers can be found here:
