Head Teacher Blog: Friday 28th September 2018

Another busy week in school! We have thought carefully about our God given talents this week and how we can put our talents to good use and make sure that we encourage others to use their talents too. We have looked at how talent comes from within and because we can’t see talent from the outside, it therefore makes no difference as to what we look like, think or believe as to whether we have talents. We have looked at the story of Joseph and his talent for interpreting dreams, the Parable of the Talents - how, if you put your talents to good use, they will grow and develop and also the story of Elmer by David McKee, the elephant who thought that he made others laugh because he looked different, until he made himself look the same and could still make the other elephants laugh. Please encourage your child to develop their talents at home – perhaps share yours with them!

I carried out a Learning Walk this week – I go from class to class looking in books, at the classroom and talking to children – to find out how we are getting on with learning about equality and diversity. The children in Key Stage Two were very knowledgeable and gave me lots of examples of how to make many different people welcome. The children in Key Stage One also did a good job thinking about the way people look as being diverse. We will continue this work to encourage children to think about diversity in many more ways – take a look at the Equality Act 2010 so that you can see the protected characteristics that we will make sure our children are accepting of.

For the parents of children in Hatchmere, Mrs Kelly is having an operation on Tuesday so will not be in school for a couple of weeks. In her absence, the class will be taught by Mrs Hodge and myself at times and also by Mrs Jones. Many of you will know Mrs Jones as she recently retired from teaching Reception at Over St. John’s but has continued to work in school covering classes on a regular basis. We wish Mrs Kelly a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back in school in a couple of weeks.

We would like to wish Mrs Riley lots of love and luck as she begins her maternity leave today. Mrs Riley has had a very exciting week as she moved house yesterday as well as preparing to welcome her second child! We will keep you informed about her impending good news and in the meantime, we look forward to welcoming Miss Marsh in to Linmere next week. Mrs Starsiak will now move to teaching Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Miss Marsh will teach on Thursday and Friday.
