Head Teacher Blog: Friday 9th November 2018

It’s a girl! Many, many congratulations to Mrs Riley and her family as Mrs Riley gave birth to a baby girl, Matilda, in the half term holiday. I know that the children are all looking forward to meeting Mrs Riley’s new daughter and I am sure that she will be in to visit soon.

A huge thank you to Mrs Iles, Mum of Daniel in Linmere. Over the half term holiday, Mrs Iles got together at team of 15 people from Barclay’s to come and decorate our offices, entrance porch, stairs, landing and upstairs kitchen, all at no cost to the school. We have received many compliments regarding the new look office and I would like to express our sincere thanks to Mrs Iles for organising this for us.

This week the children have been thinking about wisdom in our Collective Worship and how it isn’t about how clever we are, but our ability to be wise and make the right choices and we looked at the story of Solomon to help us understand this and the wise man who built his house upon a rock. Children have agreed to make sure that they think about being wise with other people – making the right choices with our words and actions so as not to upset anyone. “Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:5-6

We also looked at different families this week in our No Outsiders assembly. Some families are large, some are small, some people live with Mum and Dad, some people may live with Mum, some may live with grandparents, others with two Mums or may be adopted but, no matter who is in your family, they are special to you. We also looked at the fact that, as Christians, we also all belong to another different family – God’s family. “’I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me,’ says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18

Following on from our Remembrance competition that we ran at the end of September, where KS1 had to produce some art and KS2 some writing, children were awarded their prizes at the end of Collective Worship this morning. Congratulations to Jacob, Oliver, Brooke, Jack, Emilia and Mya who won second prizes and to Holly, Miley, Summer-Jay, Lily, Lily and Annie who won first prizes. There were so many fantastic entries that it was difficult to choose, but you may have seen the art work proudly displayed in our entrance porch, so you can see for yourself the great work that went on. Furthermore, from all the entries that were sent off, there were well over 700 entries from schools right across Cheshire West borough.  The judging panel consisted of the Lord Mayor of Chester, Chairman of Cheshire West and Chester Council, a representative from Royal British Legion, Dr Tim Grady - Reader in Modern History at Chester University, Dr Hannah Ewence - Senior Lecturer in Modern History at University of Chester, Carmel Clapson - Cultural Strategy Development Officer and finally Emma Knight - Arts Development Officer. The entry from Brooke in Blakemere was awarded the Chairman’s Special Prize!  Brooke will read her entry out during the City of Chester’s Remembrance service at Chester Cathedral on Sunday. Many, many congratulations to Brooke who did an excellent job! I will find out more about how she gets on at the weekend and inform you all next week – good luck Brooke!
