Hello Hatchmerians

We have had great fun this week going on our bus journeys.  So far we have been inspired to go the beach, the pantomime, Disney land and we even had a trip to the hospital because one of the class was about to give birth!  Have a look at the pictures below for some of our careful drivers.

Next week we are going to look at some of the sights of London in a bit more detail and learn about its most famous inhabitant-the Queen. Have you ever been or your child ever been to London? Do you have some pictures you could send in to add to our geography display?

In our reading we are going to be looking for fluency and flow.  The children are doing very well at sounding out words and recognising high frequency words (HFW) whilst reading but sometimes they are so focussed on the mechanics of reading the word they forget to read for meaning.  I would suggest getting them to re-read the sentence after they have decoded all the words and asking them what it means to develop their comprehension skills.  I wouldn’t necessarily do this for every page just the pages they have struggled with.

During our writing this week we will be looking at how we structure our sentences. We plan our sentence out on our fingers and repeat it 3 times. The finger acts as the word and the gaps between fingers act as finger spaces. We begin our sentence with a capital letter and end it in a full stop. We stretch out, very slowly, our tricky words to listen for all of the sounds and then use our robot arms to listen to each sound individually to support us to write the word. It all sounds very complicated but Hatchmere have certainly risen to the challenge of sentence writing with enthusiasm and confidence. I am sure if you asked you asked your child to demonstrate how to write a sentence you will be impressed with their explanations. They are writing superstars!!
