Hatchmere Class Blog 27.04.22

Are we ready for the Bank Holiday weekend? Hatchmere are! We have had another jam-packed week.
Our actors and actresses have put on quite a performance! In pairs the children have taken it in turns to be Lily and the Bear (Silly Doggy). If you were Lily, what would you have said? The children have then produced some writing in a speech bubble. It has been lots of fun.
Hatchmere have been investigating numbers up to 20 this week and we have discovered numbers hiding in other numbers! They have explored different ways to make the same number. Did you know a 3 and another 3 make 6, that it is a double and an even number!! The children have also been challenged this week to explain what makes an odd number and even number. Ask your child what they know about odds and evens up to 10. We have also been deconstructing our number lines to calculate what is one more and one less. And if that was not enough, our timed number line challenge got a little trickier, with missing numbers. The children were still able to beat their initial time and can form a number line with missing numbers in 37 seconds. Phew….no wonder we are ready for a rest!
The children have once again had their healthy brains switched on this week as they worked in pairs to let us know which food is healthy and which is unhealthy. Thank you to the adults at home that have emailed in examples of how this has translated at home. Some children have been sorting food into different categories and most children can proudly show off their healthy snacks at break time! Well done Healthy Hatchmere.
In PE we have begun practicing team games. There is a lot to remember and the children really have to focus as there are so many different skills to use at the same time; following instruction, fairness, team spirit and trying their best. We will be playing the same team game next week, let’s see which team will be the winner.
In Collective Worship this morning the whole school was introduced to the OSJ’s Roots of Faith Ethos Group who, over time, will be asking Big Questions based on the Christian faith. The KS2 children stood at the front of the hall and every one of them beautifully explained what the aims and focuses of their group are. Hatchmere listened intently to every word.
The question for this week is: Can kindess change the world?
Why not discuss this with your child and wider family. We look forward to hearing your child's thoughts on this topic.
More information on this group can be found below.
