A very sunny first week back!
The children were excited to share their Easter news with us this week and have produced some fabulous independent writing that tells us all about their various adventures during the holidays.
I am sure Hatchmere have been full of excitement telling you about the bear that visited us and left such a mess at the bin! It was the talk of the classroom! We were very worried that he may be lost so everyone was inspired to make a ‘FOUND’ poster to hang up around the school to see if anyone recognised him. What fabulous description words were used: furry, chunky, small tail, brown, fluffy, white, brown nose. Surely someone will recognise him?
In Math this week the children have been expert number sorters! They have helped my glitchy counting wand learn how to sort a large number of objects so that it doesn’t get confused when counting them: “put them in a long line and count along”, “don’t count too fast”, “only count when the wand touches it”, “the last number is how many there are altogether”. I have also challenged the children to create their own numberline in the fastest time possible. On Tuesday they got themselves into a 1-16 numberline in 32 seconds, so that was the time to beat. After a slight hiccup on Thursday they managed to beat their time and form the numberline in 22 secs! Each receiving 5 rt each as a reward. Watch out though Hatchmere, it will get a little trickier next week!
The children have been talking about exercise and how it can help us to keep healthy. Alongside walking to school, running around on the playground, going to the park and bouncing on the trampoline in their garden, Hatchmere have been describing some out-of-school activities that they take part in: boxing, swimming, football and gymnastics. Alongside this, they also have 2 PE lessons in school each week where we can feel our heat pumping and getting stronger. Phew, I’m getting tired just thinking about all that exercise.
On Friday, Hatchmere produced some wonderful pieces of art using clay and the theme of ‘Spring’ for Earth Day 2022. They explored the grounds at OSJ and found some plants they could use in their artwork to imprint the clay. When exploring the effects of energy consumption they suggested that we turn off the lights for a little bit “we can still see because its not dark and we are helping the planet”, “we’re going outside for a walk now so we shouldn’t leave the lights on, it’s wasting energy”.
Lastly, our school has received some absolutely fantastic support from our school families and wider community. We have had many donations of resources for our classroom and outside provision which have been gratefully received. In addition to those donations, the fundraiser organised over the Easter holidays collected over £420 for Hatchmere to improve their outside space after the recent spate of vandalism. From the bottom of our hearts Mrs Kelly and I would like to sincerely thank everyone who organised and took part in this event. The money will be put to very good use….watch this space for updates!
