Hatchmere's Class Blog 6.6.25

The children were excited to see each other after a week’s break and it was lovely for us all to be back together again.  

Our Mathematicians have mastered the rekenreks! Hatchmere can now organise their own rekenreks so that they are ready to use during their learning. We used our ‘fast five’ counting to support the moving of the beads quickly without have to count each one along. We have even used them to support our number bond knowledge. The children surprised themselves at how quickly they were able to use their previously taught skills in new learning.

Our number line challenge has arrived! Hatchmere have been split into 2 teams (1,2). They are pitted against each other to see who ca create a number line the quickest! This week Team 1 created their number line in 1 minute and 23 secs and Team 2 were the clear winners with a time of 30 secs. The aim of the challenge is to develop number ordination knowledge, number sense ('...is next to ... because their number is 1 more than 4') and working as a team. Team 2 are confident that they will be taking the crown next week.

Our children have been practising their Sports Day skills and although we were a little disappointed for it to be cancelled, we are looking forward to next week. Hopefully the weather is kinder to us. We have taken the oppurtunity, with breaks in the weather, to have our bikes and scooters out which is always fun. You can see how their balance and confidence have developed over time with their use. We are also becoming excellent sharers, with children waiting patiently for their turn and supporting each other to swap and help with helmets.

Hatchmere have been exploring our local birds. Our artists have created beautiful paintings of robins, wrens, pigeons, blackbirds, a jay and pigeons. They are absolutely gorgeous and have taken pride of place on a classroom display. 

We were the Attendence award winners for the week we broke up. This means that we were awarded the attendence trophy once again and as such had extra playtime as a treat! Well donwe Hatchmere! Please check Mrs Snowdon's blog for this week's winner...we want it to be us every week!!
