Head Teacher Blog: Friday 11th January 2019

Date: 11th Jan 2019 @ 1:35pm

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope that you all managed to get some well-earned rest over the holidays and spent some lovely time with your family - it all seems like such a distant memory already though! We are back to all systems go at school and it has been lovely to see how hard the children are working and to chat to them during break and lunch about their holidays.

A letter went out earlier this week with regards to clubs for this half term – we do not charge for clubs, like many other schools, and I am so grateful to the staff who volunteer their time to run these clubs. We send a new letter out at the start of each term informing you of what is on offer and asking your children to sign up – some clubs change, some stay the same and we like to give the children the opportunity to change or stay the same also! A text message will be sent out today informing you of which clubs your child has a place in. Clubs start next week, with the exception of Team Games, as Mrs McLaughlin is at a meeting in Chester – this will start the week after.

We have received some information from the Storyhouse in Chester with regards to a Makefest that they are holding on Sunday 3rd February from 11am – 3pm:

Storyhouse Makefest is a family-friendly day packed with fun hands-on activities, all based around making, STEM and digital. They are working with a number of partners from the local community to ensure there are lots of exciting workshops for families to take part in. This includes coding, Minecraft, AR and VR, Lego, micro:bit, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing and much more. Storyhouse Makefest is free to attend and there’s no tickets, just turn up and get involved. Although there’s something for everyone at Storyhouse Makefest, a lot of the activities will be more suited towards KS2 and KS3.

We have also received some details with regards to a Winsford Lone Parent Event on 21st January at Dingle Community Centre from 10am – 12pm, with a free breakfast from 9.30am. This is a family friendly event, so babies/ toddlers are welcome. The information we have received says:

“Would you like 2019 to be the best year that you start achieving your potential? Would you like to meet family friendly employers from the local area? Want to know more about being better off in work and improving your skills? Is your mental health holding you back from returning/ starting work? Want to know what’s available in Winsford to support you and your family?” There is a free goody bag for all attendees and free entry to a raffle as well.
