Head Teacher Blog: Friday 13th May 2022

Date: 13th May 2022 @ 9:59am

Well done to the children in Year 6 who have worked so hard this week during KS2 SATs week – we are incredibly proud of them. It has been a hard week, but it’s all over now and they were given their Leaver’s Hoodies yesterday to celebrate! As these have been produced by school by our uniform supplier, the children are more than welcome to wear them in place of their usual school jumper, if that is what they would prefer to do.

Next week, it’s the turn of KS1, so good luck to the children in Year 2 as they are involved in the KS1 SATs next week. I know that they have been working very hard too - also training as secret agents - and I am sure that they will take it all in their stride thanks to Mrs Williamson, Mrs Worstencroft and Mrs Starsiak!

Well done to our team of 8 who went to the Winsford Academy for a Dodgeball competition yesterday. By all accounts, they displayed the epitome of sportsmanship and couldn’t have represented our school any better – well done!

Family Film Night

The next Family Film Night is coming up at St. John’s church hall on Sunday 22nd May. This time the film on offer is Aardman Animations and Dreamworks ‘Chicken Run!’

The film begins at 4.30pm and there is no charge for entry. Popcorn, drinks and hot dogs will be available and there will also be a short talk about the film afterwards.

#WakeUpWednesday

For today’s pre-schoolers, digital devices are as much a part of their everyday entertainment as Lego and colouring books were for previous generations. With many parents and carers having justified concerns however, over problems like exposure to inappropriate content and picking up unhealthy screen-time habits, online activities can be tricky to introduce.

This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide has advice for parents and carers of younger children who are just starting to discover the excitement of exploring, playing and learning in the digital world. From general safety and security tips to suggestions on how to manage little ones’ screen time without any tears, you’re sure to find some useful and realistic guidance here.

Parent Carer Forum

We have been asked to share the newsletter below with you all which some of you may find useful, particularly those parents of children with SEN.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
