Head Teacher Blog: Friday 18th January 2019

Date: 18th Jan 2019 @ 1:23pm

In our Collective Worship this week we have looked at the story of when Jesus was lost in the temple in Jerusalem – how he was using this opportunity to listen and learn about his Father and become wise. We have used this to help us revisit what we talked about last term about being wise – that it isn’t about being clever and knowing everything, but using what we do know and thinking carefully about how we use it – being wise about the words and actions that we use. We have introduced a new Bible verse to the children today which has become part of our mission statement – ‘Let your light shine before others.’ (Matthew 5:16) We linked this in with how Jesus really began to let his light shine in the temple and he began to really understand and share the Good News. We have talked about how that is what we want for our children at Over St. John’s – for all the children to be able to shine and share their knowledge and talents for all to see.

We have sent out a letter and a text this week to request some help with two things.

  1. If you are able to help, or know someone who can help us dig and lift out the tyres in preparation for our new allotment, please send the reply slip back at the bottom of the letter that was sent out on Wednesday – thank you – we have only had two back so far.
  2. Please can you check under beds, in cupboards, under the settee etc. for any school reading books and return them to school – no questions asked!! We are running low on a number of books from our Book Band boxes and would like to see what we have got before we order some more – thank you again.

We had an unusual day in school on Wednesday as there was no internet or e mail across most of Cheshire West schools for the day, and those schools that are on the internal phone system (not us) had no phones for the day either, so we all had to get back to basics! It is a really good opportunity to spend more time with ‘real’ people when you can’t use the technology that we are normally used to – perhaps try it with your family one day this weekend?

Well done to our Year 5 and 6 children who visited Winsford Academy to take part in an athletics tournament. The children really enjoyed the different activities that were on offer and came up against some stiff opposition from other schools. There are no results, as such, to report back to you as the children took part for the experience.
