Head Teacher Blog: Friday 19th January 2024

Date: 19th Jan 2024 @ 2:14pm

What a cold week it has been! However, change is afoot and we’ll be in the double figures next week. Its hard to know where we are up to!

Attendance

We have had quite a lot of illness in school lately – there are certainly some winter bugs doing the rounds! Don’t forget to check the guidance from the NHS around Is my child too ill for school? before deciding whether to send your child in to school or keep them at home

Hatchmere         90.95%

Sandymere      84.21%

Delamere        93.53%

Oakmere         96.96%

Linmere           93.64%

Blakemere      97.04%

PE Kit

Please may I ask you to check the web page of your child’s class for their PE days to ensure that they have their kit in school when it is needed. PE kit consists of a plain white t-shirt and plain black shorts. In this cooler weather, the children may also wear plain black jogging bottoms with their school jumper when they go outside.

Children can wear black pumps or trainers, pumps can be worn indoors or outdoors but trainers are only for outdoors.

Thank you for your support with this.

Smart Watches

As you will be aware, we have a ‘no mobile phone’ policy for our children in school with the exception of those children in Blakemere, with permission from school and home who may walk home, in which case the phone is to be switched off as soon as the children arrive at the premises and handed in. In the same manner, please may I ask that children do not wear smart watches to school? Children are able to access messages and photos etc even when the phone is switched off and therefore operate in a similar manner. Once again, thank you for your support with this.

Junior Youth Club

We have received details of a Junior Tuesday Junction Youth Club which is starting on Tuesday 23rd January @ Wharton Library – 5.30pm – 7.15pm. The club is aimed at 8 - 11 years. There is a £1.00 entrance fee, included in this is a snack and drink. It will be a great place for children to chill out with their friends, play sports, games or use their creative skills with the arts and crafts section. Please see the flyer below for more details.

#WakeUpWednesday

One in three 8-year-olds in Britain own a smartphone and that proportion rises to more than 90% by the time children reach 12. This increase, driven by factors both personal (blossoming independence) and practical (the transition to secondary school), makes it all the more valuable for young people to know how to use such devices safely.

Indeed, more than half of parents (52%) surveyed by Ofcom admitted to worrying about their child being bullied via their mobile phone and with hazards like scams, screen addiction and inappropriate content to consider, that’s far from the only risk around. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide pulls together some simple but solid smartphone safety tips.

February Half Term at Brio

We have received information about a swimming crash course running from 19th - 23rd February between 9:00am-11:00am at Winsford Lifestyle Centre. This is great for children to increase water confidence and develop their aquatic skills.

They also have Under the Sea Pool parties on the following dates and venues:

Northwich Memorial Court – Thursday 22nd February 1:15pm - 2:15pm

Winsford Lifestyle Centre – Friday 23rd February 1:15pm - 2:15pm

Please see the flyers below for more details.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider as we do not accept cash in school.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free schools meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.
