Head Teacher Blog: Friday 27th September 2019

Date: 30th Sep 2019 @ 8:00am

Apologies that this Blog has been posted a little later than usual – we had no internet connection on Friday and it soon becomes apparent how much we rely on technology to go about our daily lives!

In our Collective Worship this week, we have been focussing on the Christian value of courage – standing up for what you know is the right thing to do even if it makes you the ‘odd one out.’ We have looked at Daniel in the Lion’s Den and the story of the Fiery Furnace to help us understand this and how those in the stories didn’t bow down to pressure from others but stuck to their beliefs and trusted in God. As a consequence, God protected them and others came to accept and agree with their beliefs.

In our No Outsiders Collective worship, we talked about freedom and the right to not be unfairly imprisoned. We looked at a book called ‘Dreams of Freedom’ and discussed our British Value of democracy and our right to be heard.

Aldi Stickers

From 6th September until 3rd November, those who shop in Aldi can receive Team GB stickers with every £30 spent to send into school. When we receive 300 stickers, we can exchange these for sports kits and the chance to win one of twenty £20,000 prizes. Please may I ask you to keep an eye out for these stickers when shopping in Aldi and send them into school? Thank you.

Parking along Delamere Street

Please may I remind everyone of the need for considerate parking along Delamere Street when dropping off or picking up children? I appreciate that it can get very busy out there first thing in the morning and then again in the afternoon, but we need to ensure that the immediate vicinity is safe for those walking to and from school. It is very important that car users do not block the pavement as it forces small children and those with pushchairs onto the road as they cannot get past. Please try parking a little further away and walking the rest of the way into school to avoid congestion. A number of adults raised this as a concern with me this morning. As a school, we can only ask drivers to be considerate as we are not traffic wardens, but we would hope that everyone would take notice and put the safety of pedestrians, particularly children, as a high priority. Thank you.

#WakeUpWednesday

YouTube Kids is a great way for children to watch their favourite videos in a safe and secure environment. It works just like normal YouTube except with added parental controls and filtering deemed appropriate for a younger audience. But can children still be at risk? Can some videos slip through the net? And what measures can parents put in place? This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide looks at the main things that parents need to know about YouTube Kids. It covers everything from providing useful tips on setting up to information on advertisements and advice around viewing times. Download the free guide below.

Applying for Secondary and Reception Places for September 2020

If you have a child in Year 6, the application round has now opened for you to apply for a secondary school place. It is very important that you do this before the deadline which is 31st October, otherwise your application will be classed as a late application and could have a severe impact on your preferred school choice. Before making your application, it is important you view the Transferring to Secondary School information booklet. To apply, you will need to create an account or login if you have an existing online account.

As a school, we are a partner primary with both The Winsford Academy and Hartford CE High School which means that applications for children from our school are considered above some other categories, should the school be oversubscribe. Further details with regards to this can be found in the ‘Transferring to Secondary School’ information booklet in the link above.

If you have a child who is turning 4 years old between now and 31st August 2020, or know of a child who is, then the application round is also open for them to apply for their Reception place. The timescale is slightly different for this and you have until 15th January 2020, but like the secondary school place, before making your application, it is important you view the Starting School information booklet. To apply, you will need to create an account or login if you have an existing online account.
