Head Teacher Blog: Friday 31st January 2020

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 12:22pm

In our Collective Worship this week, we looked at the story of Simeon and Anna and how, when Jesus was presented in the temple a few weeks after his birth, they realised that he was the promised one that had been sent to rescue us. We thought about how Jesus was the Light of the World and all the good things that he did for others and remembered our school bible verse ‘Let your light shine before others,’ to remind us to do good things for other people too.

We also linked this in with our No Outsiders Collective Worship as we remembered 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. We read a story called ‘Rose Blanche’ about a little German girl who saved up her food and regularly went to share it with children in a concentration camp, through the electrified barbed wire fence. We talked about how brave she was because, if anybody had found out what she was doing, she would have been in a lot of trouble. She was doing something good for others. We shared the bible verse ‘For God does not show favouritism’ (Romans 2:11) and discussed how very important it is to treat everyone equally, regardless of faith, disability, sexuality, nationality or any other protected characteristic and not forget the terrible things that happened during the Holocaust.

Achievement for All Quality Mark

We are delighted to announce that last week we gained the Achievement for All Quality Mark, which is given to schools in recognition of the work that they do to enable every child to be the best that they can be regardless of background, challenge or need. This has been the culmination of two years’ worth and work and we are delighted to achieve this accolade.

#WakeUpWednesday

Facebook is used by billions of people all over the world. The social media platform has grown from being primarily used by university students to one of the most popular and widely used apps on the planet. It can be a fantastic way for children to keep in touch with family and friends and communicate with other like-minded people. That’s why National Online Safety have created a useful guide to help parents and carers understand exactly what Facebook is all about. Harry Potter Book Night at Winsford Library

Winsford Library are holding their 6th annual Harry Potter Book Night on Thursday 6th February from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. There is no charge for this and there will be a host of activities for children to take part in such as crafts, potion class, wand practice and triwizard activities. This sounds like fun for all the family, wizards and muggles both welcome!

Reminders

School dinners cost £2.30 per day, £11.50 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme. Dinner money must be paid in advance via the School Money system.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/education-and-learning/school-meals.aspx for more information and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free schools meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent.
