Head Teacher Blog: Friday 8th March 2019

Date: 8th Mar 2019 @ 11:56am

What a colourful day we had in school for World Book Day yesterday! It was a real treat to see all the fantastic costumes that the children had come to school in and I wouldn’t even know where to start telling you about all the wonderful characters that we had, but you name it and we probably had it! I know that some classes have put photographs on the website, so take a look. Thank you to everyone for getting involved and ensuring that the children had a lovely day. Furthermore, thank you for the book donations that have been sent in for our book sale at the end of the day today – I will update you all next week as to how this went.

The Christian season of Lent began this week and we have been thinking about this as a school in Collective Worship. We have talked about how Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights in the desert preparing for his work in spreading the Good News. We then discussed how the season of Lent is 40 days long and is our time to prepare for Easter. Traditionally, people give things up at Easter, such as chocolate, as a way of remembering all that Jesus gave up whilst in the desert. However, we have asked the children to ‘Do Something Good’ – pay someone a compliment, tidy their room without being asked, come off their phones and chat with ‘real’ people – as a way of remembering all the good work that Jesus was about to embark on. Ask your children what good things they have done, or could do over the next few weeks. ‘And as you wish that others would do to you, so do to them.’ Luke 6:31

Although it has been yet another very busy week, this seems to be a quiet blog!

Reminders

School dinners now cost £2.30 per day, £11.50 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. Please can dinner money be paid in advance via the School Money system.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/education-and-learning/school-meals.aspx to apply. It is very important to apply for free schools meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent.

Please may I remind you that the school car park is for the use of staff and visitors only. Unfortunately, we do not have enough space for all parents to drop off and pick up, so we request that parents park elsewhere to make this fair for all.
