We set off from school towards Knight's Grange with a black sky overhead hoping it would clear and reveal brilliant sunshine for an afternoon of cricket. Upon arrival we were disappointed to learn that four teams had dropped out (probably because of that black cloud) and that it would be a shortened tournament with only four teams from Winsford competing. Despite the gloomy sky and a few spots of rain, the weather behaved.
Nothing could dampen our enthusiasm and we went into our first match against Willow Wood feeling confident and ready. We played really well excelling in our bowling with wickets taken by Will F, Will B, Shaun and Harry. Our batting was a little erratic in this first game; Will F leading the way with some boundary shots and a walloping '6' ! The match ended with OSJ 271 runs - Willow Wood 234 runs.
Next our opponents were Whitegate Primary. Although our confidence was high, our bowling was not as accurate in this match and Whitegate capitalised on this . Will F and Max H both took wickets which certainly helped our cause. We went into bat knowing exactly what we had to do but were shocked when two of Whitegate's team produced some superb bowling and took 8 wickets in a collapse that had me thinking I was watching England!!! The final result was OSJ 217 - Whitegate 247.
Lastly we faced Overhall and this proved to be our best match. Both our batting and bowling was tremendous with lots of maiden overs produced and boundaries coming off most players' bats. Shaun's final over was 5 dot balls and a wicket! I was so excited I forgot to take down the final score for this match but suffice to say, we won well.
A special mention must go to Kaelin Jones who wasn't feeling too well but played in every match without one single moan. Thank you Kaelin.
The boys' attitude and behaviour was, as always, brilliant and they were a credit to St. John's.
