Oakmere Class Blog 16.5.25
Date: 16th May 2025 @ 4:05pm
Hello Oakmere.
Another scorching week. Thank you to those parents who sent in hats and water bottles. That made my life a lot easier. Next week it looks like it might cool down a little bit but I would still appreciate it if you sent your child into school every day with a hat and a water bottle.
This week in English we have been writing speech sandwiches. This is where we have a bit of dialogue, then action, another bit of action and speech. It’s a lot to remember along with the speech punctuation. Next week we will be adding to adverbs and fronted adverbials to the speech sandwich to give the reader more information. These skills will be used later on in this unit as part of a big write. In our shared reading we are looking at how we find and collect information from a text to prove a point. This week in spellings we are looking at silent letters. The k and g at the beginning of these words were sounded hundreds of years ago. Please find the spelling list below.
knock
knew
knee
knife
knuckle
gnaw
gnome
gnash
In math’s we are on the final stretch for the fraction unit of work and the children will be moving onto measurement. The children will be looking at other fractions as a decimal. This includes halves, thirds and quarters.
In Science we had great fun using the compasses to make simple maps. I think it’s a skill we still need to work on as I ended up in some quite strange places when I followed their compass directions. Next week we are starting our new, and possibly my favourite topic on plants and our focus is ‘working in role as a botanist ‘. This we start with dissecting a plant and trying to work out what the jobs of the different parts of the plant are.
In RE we are writing a letter to God with some of our big questions about faith. In Geography we are going to look at some of the human geography of America and talk about how we have impacted on the landscape. In DT we have started our next project and have designed a cushion. Next week we are going to create a template for out applique pieces and start sewing those on. Thank you to Mrs Boughey for the kind donation of material. If anyone has some stuffing lying around they are not using that would be greatly appreciated. In PE we continue to prepare for our Sports Day and learn tag ruby. The children will be doing Computing and French with Mrs Riley on a Tuesday morning.
Our raffle ticket prize will be pulled on Monday. Well done to our super spellers Thea, Belle, Lily, Esmee, Charlotte, Sebastian and Olivia M for getting top marks. Our top times tablists are Beautiful, Thea and Sebastian.
Our attendance has been quite poor this week at 85.60% but that can be blamed on the nasty little bug that seems to be running amok in our class. Next week will be much better.
Don’t forget all clubs are cancelled due to pupil consultation meeting next week. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.
Mrs Kelly
