Oakmere Class Blog 21.3.25

Date: 21st Mar 2025 @ 4:25pm

Hello Oakmere

We have had a great week with the weather on our side.  We managed to get outside and explore the movement of the sun by tracking our shadows.  You may have spotted the pleather of chalk outlines on the playground at pick up time.  We even managed PE outside looking at our dribbling skills.  It has been lovely to see the games the children play in PE transferring into break times.  Yesterday the entire class were playing VIP pass together-it was lovely and very funny to watch.

English

In English, we have been researching what it means to be a refugee.  The children have been watching videos and looking at pictures to collect words that they can later use in a writing task.  They will then be adding adverbs of time to their sentences. The children will be working on noun phrases and correctly using subordinate clauses.

Our spellings this week are heel, heal, he’ll, mail, male, main, mane, meat and meet

Maths

In maths we continue to look at fractions and this week we will be comparing unit and non-unit fractions.  The children will be ordering and comparing amounts.

9 Times Table Song (Shivers by Ed Sheeran) - YouTube

We are still working on the nine times tables and on our test this week Suzanne, Oliver, Thea, Lily, Sebastian, Jacob, Oscar and Charlotte got forty out of forty.  Well done to them.

Science

We have finished off our light topic in Science and this week we will be moving onto learning about forces in particular magnetism.  However, for the first week we will be looking at friction and how things move on different surfaces and can how we compare them.

Geography

This week we will be looking at the physical geo and its major landmarks including the Niagara Falls, The Grand Canyon and the Rockies.

PE

In PE, the children will be working on their dance skills with the PE coach. In my PE lesson we will continue to work on our handball skills. As we will be going outside more don’t forget to include jogging pants and a warm top.

RE

We are going to start looking at the Easter story.  In particular, why do Christians call the day Jesus died ‘Good Friday’?  We continue to work on our song as a class and the children are doing very well.

Love One Another - Orange Kids Music

DT

We a have taken apart our boxes and looked at how they are made, why some are reinforced and other aren’t and the information on the box.  Next week the children are going to look at how boxes are strengthened.

Music

This week we got the instruments out to play alongside our Banana song.  The children did very well following the notation and beat. This week we are going to exploring simple accompaniments using beat and rhythm patterns

Computing and French

Mrs Riley will be teaching the children these subjects on a Tuesday morning.

Congratulations

Well done to Lily Evans for winning our raffle ticket prize.  Congratulations to Charlotte for getting to her Silver reading badge.  We are very proud of your hard work.

Attendance

As always, we are looking for attendance to be at least 96%. This week the attendance is 89.17% which as you can see is not a good week for us.

Have a great weekend

Mrs Kelly
