Hello Oakmere
What a beautiful week we have had. Lovely weather always seems to make everyone happier. The children have been great again this week and we have completed some lovely work.
In English we are working on a description of a refugee camp. The children are writing it from the point of view of a volunteer going to the camp and their first impressions. The children are expected to include a wide range of vocabulary, noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions. In our shared reading we continue to look at the story of Edward Tulane and explore the adventures the little china rabbit gets involved with. This week the children will be making predictions. In our spellings this week we are looking at the ‘y’ sound making an ‘I’ sound when it is used in the middle of the word. Please find this week spelling list below. The spelling test will be on Tuesday.

In Maths we continue to work on fractions and we will be looking at adding and taking away. Working with fractions can be a bit tricky but the more the children understanding their multiplications the easier they will find it. Please encourage the children to spend some time on TTRS as it helps. This week we will be moving onto the eleven times table. Please find the link below for our eleven times table song.

In Science this we have week have sorted material that is magnetic and discovered that not all metals are magnetic. Next week we will be exploring the differences in the poles of the magnet and how they repel or attract each other.
In RE we will be starting our new topic on faith and what people believe God is to them. In Geography we continue to learn about North America and in particular the Rockies. In DT we will be starting a new topic on textiles where the children will be designing and making a simple bag or container focusing on joining skills. In PE the children continue to work on their Athletic and Game skills with the sports coach. They had great fun this week with the foam javelins this week.
Well done to Beautiful for winning the raffle ticket price. Well-deserved for all her hard work this week. Congratulations to our spelling queen Daisy for getting full marks this week. Thea, Belle, Archie, Sebastian, Oliver, Beautiful, Lily and Charlotte-amazing work on your times table test which now has forty multiplication and division calculations on and has to be completed in five minutes. Well done Archie, Sebastian and Aston for topping out TTRS board this week.
This week we our attendance was good at 94.40% but unfortunately not good enough to win.
Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and we will see you on Tuesday which is class photograph day.
