Oakmere Class Blog 28.2.25
Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 4:39pm
Hello Oakmere
Hope you all had a good half term holiday. It was lovely to hear all the children’s news. We were particularly interested to learn about Beatrice’s trip to the museum in London as she saw a Mary Anning display. The class were amazed to hear she saw part of the Ichthyosaur Mary Anning dug up.
English
In English, we will be looking at the work of the artist Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins who was one of the first people to try and puzzle out what dinosaurs looked like. We are going to explore the sentences from his books and look at how we can improve them using conjunctions, adverbs and pronouns.
Don’t forget it is World Book Day on Wednesday 5th March. Our school theme is space and Oakmere will be reading Simon Bartrams book Man on the Moon which explores the humorous adventures of Bob the spaceman. Don’t forget to dress up.
Our spellings this week are actually, although, consider, enough, increase, important, knowledge and question.
Maths
In maths we will be continue to work on using the number line to divide and then we will move onto the short method of column division which relies on the children’s knowledge of place value and the times tables. Please find the link for the song below.
9 Times Table Song (Shivers by Ed Sheeran) - YouTube
Well done to Lily Evans, Ashton and Sebastian for being our TTRS Champions.
Science
We will be looking at how the sun can damage anything exposed for too long. The children are going to record how long it takes for the sun to fade colour.
History
We will be finishing off our History topic and answering our question ‘What was more impressive the Bronze or the Iron Age?’. Hopefully with all the research the children have undertaken in the past few weeks they will be able to answer this question.
PE
In PE, the children will be working on their dance skills with the PE coach. In my PE lesson we will be starting to learn how to play handball. As we will be going outside more don’t forget to include jogging pants and a warm top. If your child wears tights, please can you include a pair of socks. Nobody wants to be doing PE in tights!
RE
In RE we will be learning about the story of Zacchaeus and how Jesus helped him find his way back to the right path. The children enjoyed our special visitors to Collective Worship this morning as we welcomed a new group into school through Churches Together called Open the Book. They acted out the story of Jesus visiting the temple as a child. They even had a few of our older children dressed up and joining in.
Art
In Art we working on our final piece using stiches to add texture and movement to our painted background. The children started the sewing this week and did really well. Only a few pricked fingers and thy all managed to put some stiches on their fabric.
Music
This week we are going to use the tambours to follow the stick notations and then work in small groups to create our own music.
Computing and French
Mrs Riley will be teaching the children these subjects on a Tuesday morning.
Congratulations
Well done to Lily Amelia for winning our raffle ticket prize and Jacob for receiving his Bronze star.
Attendance
As always, we are looking for attendance to be at least 96%. For the school this week we are at 96.62% and 94.63% since September.
Oakmere attendance is 95.31%
Have a great weekend.
