Oakmere Class Blog 4.7.25
Date: 4th Jul 2025 @ 5:03pm
Hello Oakmere.
Can you believe we are so close to the end of our time in Oakmere? We still have time for lots more learning and the children have worked hard this week. In English we sequenced the story so far and next week we will be writing a diary entry on these events. The children will be including adverbs, noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions. These are this week’s spellings.

In maths we hard great fun measuring capacity, the children explored more, less, equivalent and how to add and subtract amounts. Next week we will be moving onto working with money, we will be adding and subtract amounts of money to give change, using both £ and p in practical contexts. The children will be using their place value skills and column method to work out calculations but they will also work to represent the answer with coins. To support the children at home you could ask them to count out the coins in your purse/wallet or coin jar.
In History we will be researching the Blitz and how it impacted on life in Britain during this time. We will link this research to the work completed earlier in the year when we looked at the impact of war on children. In RE we were lucky enough to have our own Over St Johns Vicar Richard come and talk to the children about his own personal experiences of faith. The children had lots of great questions to ask him. In RE this week are thinking about how do Christians use symbols to explain what God is like? We will start with sharing our own ideas from previous RE lessons. In Science we are going to be looking at invertebrates a little bit more closely. We are going to go on a bit of a bug hunt and see what we can find in our school. The children will be then using the classification system to see what type of invertebrate they are. In Art the children drew me in the style of Quentin Blake as I stood in a strong pose-they used several different sketch styles including single line and a rhythm line. Next week we are going to collect sketches and ideas for our sculpture.
Congratulations to Beatrice for winning our raffle ticket prize, Beautiful for getting top marks in our times table test. Well done to Tyler for getting his next reading star.
Have a great weekend.
