Oakmere Class Blog 7.2.25
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 6:09pm
Hello Oakmere
We have had a lovely week this week. The children have been working hard across the board, and I have lots of lovely comments about their behaviour which always makes me proud. This week has been Mental Health week where we have explored the issue through the theme 'Know yourself, Grow Yourself'. The children took part in a special collective worship on Tuesday morning and in our PSHE lesson we talked about our hopes for the future. The children have completed some work on how they want to grow this year and in the future. It was lovely to hear the children’s dreams and aspirations for the future. Please follow this link for more information about how we support the children at OSJ. There are also lots of useful resources for you to access. Next week we are going to visit the Library on Wednesday. Please ensure you send your child in with a coat and suitable footwear. If your child has a Library card, please send it in as they will be able to get a book out whilst we are there.
English
In English, this week we have wrote our diary entry ensuring we are using adverbs correctly, conjunctions and prepositional words. These elements add greater depth to the writing and help make the writing more interesting to read. The children are constantly encouraged to read their writing and edit it. Next week we will be creating our own fact flle about strange animals. You will be able to see from the photographs the green pen shows where the children have corrected their work. In our shared reading this week we are moving onto poetry and looking at the use of metaphors.
Maths
In Maths we will be moving onto seeing the relationship between multiplication and division. We will be exploring the relationship between these calculations. The children will be looking at multiply using the column method with and without exchanging. We continue to learn the eight times table. Please remember to practice the eight times table at home. A great way to do this is to play on TTRS at least three times a week. This weeks TTRS winners are Ashton, Thea and Sebastian.
Well done to all the children who got full marks on their eight times table test.
Science
We explored the different sources of light and what isn’t a source of light with the children this week. We looked at how dark is the absence of light and touched on how light travels and makes shadows. We couldn’t look at this without having a little play with the shadows. The children were very good at identifying the shadow object. Next week we will be looking at reflective surfaces and how we they are useful.
History
In History we continue to look at the Bronze and Iron Age and compare which was more impressive. This week we are looking at how life improved in Britain as each new metal was introduced.
PE
In PE, the children will continue to work on their gymnastics skills with the PE coach. This week she commented on how good the class were at the various moves she has taught them. I will try to get some action shots next week. In my PE lesson we will be putting all the skills we have learnt into playing a game. I’m not sure we will get all the moves right but knowing Oakmere they will give it a good go.
RE
In RE we will be looking at Sikh place of worship, the Gurdwara. The children will be learning about what you would see in a Gurdwara and how the local community uses it.
Art
In Art we working on our final piece using stiches to add texture and movement to our painted background. The children are working on created a piece that represents water and movement.
Music
This week we are going to use the tambours to follow the stick notations and then work in small groups to create our own music.
Congratulations to Sebastian for winning our raffle prize this week.
Have a Great weekend and I'll see you on Monday.
