Our week in Oakmere - 11.09.2020

Date: 11th Sep 2020 @ 10:23pm

It’s been a very busy first full week back in school.  We are so proud of how the children have settled into the new routines.

There has been a lot of lovely writing in Oakmere this week – from beautiful presentation in handwriting sessions to the use of expanded noun phrases in English. I think we are all enjoying the current text we are working from – Counting on Katherine. It’s all about Katherine Johnson and the part she played in the space race. One of our English activities this week was to write an application letter for our dream jobs. It was so interesting to hear the variety of jobs the children are hoping to do when they are older – from diver to hairdresser, scientist to pirate, artist to racing car driver – all so different and lovely to hear the children speak and write with such passion.

Our maths work this week has about exploring numbers. We used practical resources to make numbers and then looked at different pictoral representations of them. Year 3 were working with numbers upto 1000 whilst year 4 investigated 4 digit numbers.

We also began our topic work this week and looked at the meaning of chronology and sorted objects according to the time period in which they were around. The children also listened to this song in geography: https://youtu.be/K6DSMZ8b3LE Unfortunately, due to current guidelines we aren’t able to sing in school at the moment but perhaps the children could have a go at learning and singing the song at home.

Don’t forget PE kits on Tuesday and Friday. Please can we ask that all PE kit and school uniform is named. There have been some instances this week when jumpers have been left outside and without a name it’s not always easy to ensure they go home with the rightful owner!

Have a great weekend.
