This week we have been reading a poem called There's No Such Thing as Monsters by Roger Stevens. We have performed the poem together as a class and thought about how to use our voices to make our listener interested. Next week we will becoming poets ourselves and having a go at writing our own poem.
In maths we have been adding numbers within 10. It has been a bit tricky to remember what + and = mean but we are starting to get there. The children have risen to the challenge of using these symbols to record addition calculations in their maths books.
We had our very first history lesson this week and everyone was very excited and inspired to find out more. History is learning about the past, so we began by learning about toys in the past. The children were amazed to find out that some of the toys they play with have been played with for over 100 years. We decided that we wanted to know more about toys in the past and have written lots of questions to ask our adults at home.
In our class collective worship this week we explored more about thankfulness. Many of us in class have been poorly over the last few weeks. I asked the children Can we still be thankful when we feel poorly? They were very clear in their answers and many used words and stories from the Bible to tell me why we can always be thankful. “There are lots of things to say thank you for like your friends. You still have them even when you feel ill.” “The Bible says in all things give thanks so we can say thank you for lots of things. If something is worng there will be other things that are not wrong” “Jesus helped people who were sick. He healed 10 men but only one said thank you. They should all have said thank you.” We talked about Christians always having God and Jesus to be thankful for and that we can thank them by saying prayers and singing to them. Here is the song we have been singing in our class collective worship each week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njsdfxK9FcQ
