Sandymere Class Learning Update 8.9.16

Date: 8th Sep 2016 @ 9:52am

Welcome to the Sandymere Learning Update blog.  I will be writing this blog every week for you to keep you up to date with your child’s learning, for sharing important information and to provide hints and tips for developing your child’s learning journey further at home.

Firstly I would like to say how amazing the children have settled in to Year 1.  They have quickly got to grips with the routines and are relishing the opportunity of a more formal style of learning.

At the end of the day the children are being given the responsibility to collect all their own belongings such as:

  • Coat
  • Book bag
  • Lunch box
  • Water bottle
  • Jumper/cardigan
  • Letters for parents/homework

At the moment the children are trying really hard to do this on their own so don’t worry if your child needs to pop back into the classroom if they’ve forgotten something.  They will soon get to grips with this.  May I add at this stage it is really helpful if EVERY item is clearly named so if anything is left behind we can quickly reunite the item with its owner – thank you.

Learning

So far this the week the children have practised their number formation and even started to use their Year 1 Maths books – they are very neat! J They have also completed dot to dot activities to confirm their knowledge of recognising numbers to 40.

They have agreed the classroom rules and signed a contract. A copy of this will be sent to you next week.

We were excited to explore google maps and look at the world, the UK and then zoomed into Winsford.  Why don’t you explore this further with your child at home? www.googlemaps.com We then searched for the UK in atlases and talked about the four countries that make up the UK.

To develop our geography further and explore British Values we have talked about things we might see, feel, hear in London. The children had some really good ideas and wrote some fabulous sentences in their London bus books.

In Science, the children have looked at signs of autumn using magnifying glasses. They loved this activity!

Towards the end of the week the children will writing the class prayer and continuing their work on finding about London.

Such a busy start to Year 1!

We would also like to welcome a new child into our class and I am sure your child will tell you all about her.

May I take this opportunity to say thank you for your support so far this week.

See you all on Monday!
