Sandymere Learning Update 21.9.17

Date: 21st Sep 2017 @ 9:24am

The children are certainly adapting quickly to the new routines and love using the visual timetable to keep themselves and me (!) on track. A SHOUT OUT to Archie for reminding me where we are up to each day.

This week we have started looking at the four countries within the UK. The children have enjoyed recreating the UK using jigsaws and labelling them. Ask your child if they can name the four countries? If you have any maps or atlases at home then please do have a little look together and share them. They could do this as part of their reading tasks and make a note in their reading diary.

In Literacy we have begun to look at difference and diversity, mutual respect and tolerance of others using texts ‘All kinds of people’ and ‘God’s great idea’. We had great fun adding noun phrases to a life sized outline of Izzy and then recreating labelled pictures of ourselves with some writing a descriptive sentence too! Mrs Worstencroft will be creating a poem this week to celebrate difference and diversity and the children are going to be stirring a pot full of words and phrases for the perfect recipe to make Sandymere class.

In maths we have continued to look at numbers to 20 but this time by sorting and grouping items according to their own criteria and then counting how many in each group. One to one correspondence has improved over the last few weeks so thank you to those who are helping their child practise this at home too.

In science we began to look at things that grow in a garden. The children were full of ideas and came up with some super suggestions. Annabelle’s suggestion of berries on a bush for the birds to eat was great! The children are really beginning to understand the importance of taking pride in our recorded work and some of the presentation of drawing, colouring and writing is certainly much neater already. Well done children – Mrs Snowden will be very impressed when she sees your work.

In addition to this we have looked at and sketched the school building in art, reflected on the Creation in class collective worship and written autumn poems. A very busy week.

Homework – this will be sent home tomorrow. There are two pieces. A practical maths task and a search and find phonics task. There is an opportunity for both yourselves and your child to feedback to us. Please do as this helps us to stay informed and an essential link between home and school.

On Friday we have Bishop Hamlet visiting our school all the way from Uganda – an exciting opportunity. Hopefully your child will be able to tell you all about it.

See you all next week!
