Another week has zoomed by and what a busy week it was!
This week we have busy learning in:

English - we are reading Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. In the story there is a lost penguin so we have spent some time finding  out facts about penguins and then independently writing these down. We found out that the penguin in the story lives at the South Pole so we looked at the weather there and used this to write a packing list for the trip to take the lost penguin home.

Maths - In our daily number work lessons we have been looking at '5 and a bit' where we look for 5 in numbers to 10. In our main maths lessons we have been counting forwards and backwards within 10 and using this to learn about 1 more and 1 less.

Science - we now know that a material is what an object is made from. We looked at different types of materials before going on a material hunt outside and around the school.

Phonics - this week we have focussed on tch, ve and ai as well as the common exception words that are the spellings for this week.

Guided Reading - across the week we read a book with the focus sound nk called A trip in the sink. In guided reading, we read with a partner taking it in turns and helping each other. On Fridays we talk about the whole book and then answers some questions about it.

Art - our focus this term is drawing. We began this unit by making controlled marks with pencil on paper and chalk on the playground floor.

Class collective worship - we looked at the Bible story about ten men who were healed by Jesus. Only one of the men said thank you. We talked about how this story teaches Christians about the value of thankfulness.

Geography - Our lesson this week was about what an address is. We looked closely at our school address and then some of the children were able to share all or part of their own address. We talked about why knowing our own address could be very helpful and I asked the children to try and learn their address with you at home.

Our other lessons this week have been PE, handwriting and PSHCE.

I am looking forward to checking reading diaries on Tuesday and awarding the first reading star stamps of the school year. There will also be the first week of NumBots certificates. These are awarded each week for the top 3 children based on amount of coins earned.

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you on Tuesday.
