Wow, what a busy week we have had!

This week we have had several special visitors in Sandymere. On Tuesday a dental nurse came to talk to us about keeping our teeth healthy. We found out why it is important to brush your teeth twice and day and to not rinse our mouths out afterwards. We hope everyone has had a go with their new toothbrush and tooth paste. Then on Wednesday, we had two visitors from Minerals Technologies. They came to share a story with us and then as a special treat, they gave everyone a copy of the book to take home. We hope you have enjoyed the story together.

We have had two science lessons this week. In the first we focussed on the change of season from Spring into Summer. We looked at how to stay safe in the sun and why it is important to do so. In our second session, we started our new topic about plants. We observed the plants in our school grounds to help us identify the different parts that a plant has. We found out that all the plants had roots, a stem and leaves. Some had flowers and some didn’t. The strawberry plants had flowers and fruit!

In computing this week we have been focussing on e-safety. We learnt three very easy words to help us stay safe online – stop, close, tell. If the children see something on their online games/activities that makes them feel worried, sad, upset, unsure then they know to stop playing/watching, close the game/laptop/video, go and tell a trusted adult. We also learnt about personal information and why we must never share this with anyone online. We must never use our real name when playing a game online, tell anyone online where we live or how old we are or which school we go to.

We are keeping our finger crossed that the weather cheers up this week and then sports day can take play on Friday. Our sports day is due to start around 9am on Friday. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school so that they are able to take part, thank you.

Have a lovely weekend,
Team Sandymere.
