Sandymere’s update 5.9.2020

Date: 5th Sep 2020 @ 11:05am

What an amazing start to Year 1 and life in Sandymere Class. I have enjoyed every minute and I hope that the children have too.
We have spent these first few days getting to know each other, exploring our space inside and out, let sing new routines and having lots of fun.
On the topic of routines just a couple of things to let you know:
Toilets- the toilets are not attached to the classroom like they were in Hatchmere. The children jsut need to ask to go to the toilet and the adult will always let them go after checking they are not in use by another class. They can go to the toilet whenever they need to.
Bags- Stroage space is very limited. Each child has their own tray in which they can keep their snack, hats, gloves etc. Drink bottles and lunch boxes have a set storage area too. They really don't need to be bringing much more than this with them on a daily basis. Books and reading diaries will only be needed on a Monday and I will be sending them home in a plastic wallet. PE kits are needed on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Coats- We are spending a lot of time outside, even when it is raining. Please make sure your child has a coat with them everyday.

You should all feel very proud of your child this week. Every single one of them has had a smile on their face and settled really well. I can't believe it has only been 3 days!

Next week we are starting our maths, English and phonics lessons in the mornings and then our topic work in the afternoons. Lots of the activities are practical and play based. So if they tell you that they have been playing they have but with lots of learning taking place at the same time.

I will write a Sandymere update at least weekly so that I can keep you up to date with the things we have been doing.

If you need to get any messages to me then please ring or email the school office and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Have a wonderful weekend

Mrs Bettley
