Sandymere's World Book Day 2025

Date: 6th Mar 2025 @ 8:54am

What a fun filled World Book we had in Sandymere!

Our day started with a visit to Winsford Library. You can see from the photographs what a wonderful time we had. We even managed to find book that matched our space theme. Before we left, Mrs Bettley read us a book called Goldilocks in Space. It was very funny!

Back at school we read our focus book for the day – Look Up! By Nathan Bryon. This book is about a girl called Rocket who dreams of being an astronaut just like Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison was the first black woman to go into space. She is a doctor, astronaut and scientist. Rocket went to watch a meteor shower travelling across the sky so we found out what one of these is.

We then thought about the idea of travelling to space and what we would need to take with us. We were very impressed with once child’s suggestion of taking Oxygen so that we would be able to breathe.

In our science lesson on Thursday, we found out more about Mae Jemison and what life as an astronaut is like. Some of us decided we would like to give it a try.

All the children agreed we had an exciting day and are looking forward to next year!
