Year 5/6 Hockey

Date: 2nd Feb 2017 @ 8:36pm

Even though the weather was awful, we all were excited to be off to Winsford Academy for a Hockey Tournament between the schools in Winsford. We only took one team of six, three boys and three girls as we did not get much response from our request for players!

There were ten teams at the tournament meaning that we were put into two groups of five. Our group consisted of Darnhall , Willow Wood , The Grange and St Chad's.  The team were outstanding and managed to win all the group games. They kept their focus for all the matches and concentrated, keeping in position and working together at all times. We had 'rolling substitutes' and everyone in the team did their bit.

We won the group and were then drawn against Willow Wood A team in the semi-final. A closely fought contest ended in St. John's managing to score two goals in the later stages of the game. This was probably our toughest match but we held our nerve and came out worthy winners.

The final was against Darnhall, (we had already beaten them in the group!) and we won the match in style, keeping our format and working hard for the whole match. The children we beyond excited and celebrated together.

Everyone in the team worked so hard today and got their just reward. Needless to say, I was very proud of each and everyone of them! We will be going on to the cluster finals as Winsford Champions!

Team: Rian, Kai, Richard, Brooke, Heidi and Grace.
