10.6.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 10th Jun 2016 @ 1:37pm

Wow what an exciting week we have had!  This week we've been building up to the Queen's 90th Birthday with lots of activities based around the book 'The Queen's Knickers' and what fun we've had!  We have created story maps, innovated our version through a story plan and even written the introduction.  The children have worked very hard.  They particularly enjoyed designing new knickers for the Queen!  We even found time to learn the nursery rhyme 'The Queen of Hearts' complete with actions.

In maths we have practised adding 11 using number lines by adding 10 then 1 more.  This is a tricky concept and the children have been amazing with their skills.  We will revisit this next week too.

In Art, we have been drawing and painting portraits of the Queen using watercolours.  The children were encouraged to look very carefully at the photographs of the Queen and draw what they saw rather than drawing what they thought they saw!  The children spotted lots of extra details.

The children continued their work on the Rabbi in R.E and practised races for sport's day in P.E.

Needless to say we have completed lots of phonics practise throughout the week too.

Phew!  It's been a busy and hot week.  I think we are all ready for a rest this weekend.  See you next week!
