About Our School Council

At Over St John's, our School Council plays an important role in helping every member of our school community to let their light shine. Guided by our Christian vision and school values, the School Council works together to celebrate what is already wonderful about our school and to identify ways that we can make it even better.

The School Council meets once a month to listen to the voices of pupils, discuss ideas, and explore ways to improve school life. As pupil leaders, council members help to ensure that everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute to our school community.

Each month, the School Council is given a question, mission or area of focus to investigate. Through their work, children learn to show our school values by demonstrating respect, responsibility, kindness, courage and service to others.

The School Council explores ideas through a variety of approaches, including:

• Democratic voting
• Debating and discussion
• Information sharing
• Individual speeches and presentations
• Partner and group discussions
• Practical projects and activities
• Gathering the views of their classmates

This term's key questions are:

What makes our school a place where children feel happy, valued and able to let their light shine?

How can we make our school an even better place where everyone can learn, belong and live life in all its fullness?

All feedback and ideas are shared with school leaders to help shape future developments and ensure that pupil voice remains at the heart of our school.
