13.10.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 13th Oct 2017 @ 12:08pm

Another week has passed by and a whole host of exciting activities have taken place. This week we have continued to look at letter formation using the cursive script and began looking at the letter ‘a’. The children have tried really hard with this and are beginning to transfer their new letter formation into their everyday writing. So far we have looked at c, o, a. Please use the link below to take a look at how we form these letters. http://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-letters-beginners.html Don’t forget to use these when completing homework too.

In English we have been busy looking at what makes a sentence. It must have

· Capital letters

· Finger spaces

· Full stops

· Makes sense

We had SO much fun building silly rainbow sentences and then being the teacher and marking sentences using the pink for praise and green for growth pens. It would seem some of the children are budding teachers! Next week we begin to plan our own stories and we hope to see these excellent sentence skills being used.

In maths we have been exploring less than and greater than with greedy Charlie Crocodile to help us. It would seem that Charlie is very hungry and always wants to eat the largest amount. Some impressive number work comparing greater and less than this week.

The children have completed some excellent writing in RE this week retelling Bible stories. Keep up the hard work children. Also this week the children have enjoyed music, PE and were treated to a wonderful assembly by Blakemere class all about the Christian Value ‘Hope’.

An additional sheet has been added to the homework books this week with further explanation of how to count phonemes within words. It explains the difference between phonemes and syllables and hopefully gives a clearer picture. The children are improving with counting phonemes daily and are doing a great job. Have a chat with them and see if they can explain it to you.

Don’t forget to book your parents evening appointment for 25th or 26th October.

See you next week!
